Healthy Homemade Pet Food Recipes

Posted in Pets

Many of us love our pets like family members and often share our own meals, like rice and curry, with them. Other times, we opt for the convenience of store-bought dry kibble. However, the easiest and most cost-effective way to ensure they get fresh, hygienic, and healthy nutrition is by preparing food at home.

One crucial thing to remember is that common ingredients in Burmese household cooking, such as onions, garlic, and fish sauce, can harm your pets' kidneys and red blood cells. Therefore, you must be careful to avoid these. In this article, we want to share some simple, health-boosting recipes for your cherished dogs and cats that you can easily make at home.

1. Golden Turmeric Rice (For Dogs)

Requiring only chicken, rice, and a pinch of turmeric, this "Golden Rice" uses turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties and provides complete nutrition.

Method: Boil skinless chicken without adding any salt or seasoning. Mix it with soft-cooked rice and a small amount of turmeric powder. Turmeric promotes joint health. For an extra boost, you can mix in boiled pumpkin to improve their digestive system.

2. Nutritious Mixed Rice (For Dogs)

For a protein-rich meal, you can use affordable ingredients from the market like pork liver or lungs.

Method: Clean the liver and lungs thoroughly, dice them into small pieces, and boil them until no blood remains. Discard the fatty broth. Mix the meat with rice and carrots.

Note: Since liver is very high in Vitamin A and iron, it should only be served once or twice a week.

3. Boiled Fish with Potatoes (For Cats)

Instead of using pungent seasonings like fish sauce or shrimp paste, let’s create a naturally sweet meal for your feline friends.

Method: You can use boiled or steamed catfish. It is vital to remove all bones by hand to prevent the common danger of fish bones getting stuck in a cat’s throat. Mix one tablespoon of mashed boiled potatoes with the tender fish for a meal your cat will surely love.

4. Golden Pumpkin & Fish Mash (For Cats)

Utilize the natural sweetness of pumpkin to create a favorite treat for cats.

Method: You can use steamed fish (with bones carefully removed) or canned sardines. Boil the pumpkin until it is very soft. Mash the fish and pumpkin together. The healthy fats in the fish will make their fur shiny, while the pumpkin aids digestion, making this an excellent choice for cats prone to constipation.

Preparing meals yourself not only provides superior nutrition but also strengthens the bond between you and your pets. By using fresh, local ingredients and avoiding harmful seasonings, you are ensuring a healthier and longer life for your furry companions.
